</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I thought this is time to "upgrade" our blog to something a little better which allow me to showcase our work in Non-Flash fashion so it allows our clients who is using iPhone, iPad or iPod, the ability to view our work.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is another huge learning curve for me as I need to re-learn about new interface of the ProPhoto blog (which is frustrating when things done work) so I had to "work around" it.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Our new blog can be accessed from our website splash page or simply type in</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://www.tomato.sg/blog">www.tomato.sg/blog</a></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">January seems to be a lot busier that expected and too many things happen outside our "plan"</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Our trusted helpers decided to run-away when we bring them for a mini holiday in Bintan... duh... no wonder, they kept asking about the work in Taiwan and HK as they believe they get paid "better" there...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is disappointing to say the least, as my bed-ridden mom would rely on their help while I am out shooting or running my business.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is heart-less to abandon my mother while on vacation.... </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">We would have let them go if they want to... but run-away is not the right way....</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Polo has been unwell with flu and cough..</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">We were suppose to be on our little yearly get-away to Bali, but trip is postponed until February.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Nonetheless, I have learned a lot this week, taking care of my business at the same time taking care of my bedridden mother and 2 little monkeys and a sick wife... </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Well, good news come when our new helper arrive a couple days ago to take off some pressure off me... </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have learned how to multitask and usage of my time more efficiently and do a lot of reading in between to strengthen my mind...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Well, I would think February mini-getaway would be well deserved....!!!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Anyway... time for moving on.... do visit our new blog on www.tomato.sg/blog though it is not 100% ready yet.... but it is good enough for now.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Love,</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Last day of the year and it happens to be the last day of the decade as well....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I am having an easy day today... start the shoot at 11am at client's home in Leedon Park and end the last shoot in client's home in Sentosa.... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Finally, it is also a time to "clean-up" and the iMac is being re-formatted and all the program re-loaded and wow... everything is so much quicker now with Mac OS Snow Leopard... love it...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">CS5 seems to run a lot faster on 64 bits OS on Mac.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I have been spending last 5 hours cleaning and re-formatting the whole thing to be ready for a big year in 2011 and connecting the second 24" inch screen... two 24" screen.... calibrated... wooohooo....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The last 2 weeks of 2010 seems to be the newborn weeks... I am doing newborn session almost every day for last 2 weeks of the year and there are a lot more newborn enquiries recently then any other type of sessions.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Bear in mind <i style="color: red;"><b>our idea for capturing images of newborn or children is to preserve the very natural behaviour of the little people</b></i><span style="color: red;">..</span>. <i>Newborn photography is about preserving the memories of the newborn as how they might be in mother's womb, the connection shared by the parents to the newborn.</i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Here is the Fact (according to me, anyway...) about the newborn photography and the reason....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: red; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>1. The best time to do the newborn session is 5-8 days to a maximum of 14 days.</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Why not 4 days and why not after 14 days? you may ask... well, most newborn will retain their "curled" up position like how they were in their mother's womb for 2 or maybe 3 weeks. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If you are a first time parents and your aim is to breastfeed, your milk supply might not be there yet at 4th day, 5th Day, usually is better... so with sufficient milk supply, we will have a contented newborn, which will give us a lot of opportunities to capture images which happen once in the life-time.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Why not after 14 days? for those who already have a child prior will note that, the "growth-spurt" happen on 3rd week, 6th week and 12th week from birth... during that period, the newborn is generally unsettled and require constant nursing which is tiring for the mother and the baby... and yes, the poor photographer too... hahaha</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Once past that 3rd week, the newborn will start to stretch and straighten the body like a little baby instead of newborn.<b> </b>So the images after this time tend to look stiff and not as exquisite. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Of course, if you are looking for those connection type of shots, it is possible at any given age.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: red; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>2. The best time to book an advance session is when you are about 25+ weeks onwards</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If this is your first pregnancy, you might want to have some memories of your "pregnancy" curve especially those who would think to have just 1 child.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i>We like to think first Maternity + Newborn as one of the most major "milestone" in your life... it can never be repeated...</i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So, we created a perfect Maternity + Newborn session just for those who is looking to "capture" their memories of the lifetime with us.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is very difficult (not impossible though) to schedule an ad-hoc request for newborn session through out the year, as we understand how precious this can be so we don't over-commit ourselves by make time for our clients who has booked our service prior. It is just fair for our clients. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: red; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>3. Jaundice is not a reason to postpone the newborn shoot</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Most (~95%) Asian newborn that I have photographed so far suffer from Jaundice which makes them sleepy and "yellowish". </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is probably the most asked questions about newborn, what if my newborn has jaundice? </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">There is nothing really stop us capturing the most amazing images of newborn while they have jaundice. Some would prefer not to have the "yellowness" in pictures... that is why we shoot digital and that is why, we do post-production work to ensure the "yellowness" is tone done if necessary.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">To be entirely honest, because of jaundice, newborn tend to be sleepy which allow us more time to create a lot of images that is so precious for our clients.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Some of our potential clients make mistake by "waiting" for the jaundice to subside, it could take up to 6 weeks... and remember, the best time to do the session is 5-8 days.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><div style="color: red;"><b>4. Newborn session could take up to 4 hours or longer</b></div><b><br />
</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Yes, you heard it right... most would thought, it is so simple to do a newborn session as the newborn tend to sleep a lot... it is correct, if they are being swaddled tightly... but best newborn images tend to be when the newborn wearing their birthday cloths (ie, Naked) as clothing tend to "swallow" the newborn.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The reason why we allow 4 hours or more for the newborn session is to ensure a nice total experience. We allow a lot of time to feed, comfort, carry, burping, etc.... and most of great shots are done within 1 hour once the newborn in their "optimum" timing and this optimum timing can happen once I arrived, after an hour, after 2 hours, or after 3 hours... there is no correct timing. The longest session I have done is 6 hours... and there is no additional charge..</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">With longer session, it allows us to bond with the newborn as well as the parents. It is very important to establish rapport with any type of portrait work. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">During the 4 hours, if the parents permit, I will be the "part-time" nanny, which allow me to "feed" the baby if bottle feeding is the preferred option, burp the baby, carry the baby... lets face it, most first time parents are still nervous when carrying their little newborn. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">My suggestion to parents is, clear your day like I clear my day just for your newborn session.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Why do I do that? because, I think this is the only way to get exquisite newborn images.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: red; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>5. Newborn session is generally happen at client's home using natural light</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">A lot of our clients are worried that they are not "ready" to go out from home when the baby is so young. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">However, our solution is to have the session done in the comfort of your own home.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The reason we offer the home service rather than getting our clients to our studio is to ensure, we get the best images we could and it also allow us to incorporate the client's home decor for the newborn images which is unique to them.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">We also use natural window light to do the session. We don't use flashes not because it may hurt the newborn, it is simply nicer and more "organic" using natural light. It is trickier to shoot as it require high iso and better (spell - EXPENSIVE) lenses to get the best of it. That is why, when you look at the images from our website, you are amaze with how "organic" it looks as there is an absence of flash.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">in some cases, our clients prefer to have the session done in our studio, we are happy to do so.</div><div style="color: red; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: red; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>6. Hart is a part-time nanny....</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
hahahaha.... anyway... that's what some of my clients refer me to.... I am not... I just love children....<br />
<br />

Mr & Mrs Chin....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I am having a blast covering their wedding on Saturday and got them into the "Infinity Pool" on Marina Bay Sand Skypark the next day... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It was raining cats and dogs when we were on the skypark on actual wedding day... so can't do the shots...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Often in life, a lot of great moments happen too quickly and may not even last for a few moments.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Newborn in their "fetus position" would only happen in the first 10 days or so in their life... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>I started doing Newborn photography in early 2009 for young newborn (5-8 days) for one main reason, that is to preserve the memory of the newborn as how they might be in the mother's womb. </i></b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">In fact, in all my photography, what is important to me is the "feel", the "mood" and the "moment" shared.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As a father, it is always amazing to look at newborn as they being delivered, count those tiny little fingers and toes... almost translucent thin skin...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is still amazing every time I see newborn... they are so young, but they do know what they want pretty early in life... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Many have seen images on our website and always wondering how on earth a guy learn how to handle the young and fragile newborn, let alone taking the images.... hahahaha... yes, I do get that quite very often...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anyway... here are 2 images which taken about 10 minutes apart... one is a miss shot and one is a shot that I am proud of... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I am pretty sure, if I don't show the one on the top, many of my clients would be happy with the "missed" shot...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i><br />
</i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i>However, in real life, I am a person which demand for the best from myself and I believe my client deserve the best I could produce both in work and service, not a rush and incomplete total experience. </i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i>It is a combination of patience, understand the fundamental of photography, understand the fundamental of children behavior as well as understand the fundamental of the parents' reaction allow me to gain trust from all my clients to allow me to "work" and produce images that is unique for my clients.</i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK-XHm7UyGTH_Ovr9ypgExCgQAYl0tBDftCMitq5UTf17oNs3Ovotd5E2qbI84hgXvT2zpWFNUMXQW_jp23xT4qBYBALZdaULPPnCJQiyxJoKNMdUSuT1f9trva1rfVry0vbzdyhKySjEC/s1600/newborn_02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK-XHm7UyGTH_Ovr9ypgExCgQAYl0tBDftCMitq5UTf17oNs3Ovotd5E2qbI84hgXvT2zpWFNUMXQW_jp23xT4qBYBALZdaULPPnCJQiyxJoKNMdUSuT1f9trva1rfVry0vbzdyhKySjEC/s1600/newborn_02.jpg" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Now the question some might ask, Is this shot Photoshop? Of Course... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I was really "hate" photoshop about 5 years ago and think the best images should be captured as it is... my true confession is... because, I don't know how to use Photoshop back then...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">One word about digital photography is, it is no longer a straight record of an image, it is about the photographer's vision on what the photographer see and feel and with the combination of the technical, the feeling and the emotion, it enable the photographer to fully "express" his/her vision... it is true in my case... some might challenge that....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Regards,</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Hart</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Tomato Photo</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">www.tomato.sg</div>Tomato Photohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08150015526060066584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5430547072544901666.post-39725260166027399452010-12-11T23:01:00.000+08:002010-12-11T23:01:19.811+08:00Liz - Portrait Photographer Singapore<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Hi all,</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Here is some images I took of Liz today in and around the studio.... Liz is a beautiful 17 years old...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is always interesting what you could get from each shoot from each individual.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is not difficult to shoot a portrait but it is always challenging to bring out the "personality" or "soul" of a person.... I hope this is the correct interpretation of her... or who she wants to be...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Every month, I could count the number of sessions I do in my studio with one hand... some months, we don't even have any in our studio...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Why? studio is cool, aircon, control lighting, background... etc.. it is comfortable and somewhat easy... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">We are doing 95% or more shoots outdoor.... are we really that crazy? We started without the studio, and we end up not using much studio since we have it anyway... but it is a good space to work, admire my own work and best of all, watching a movie when I feel creative juice is running low for the day... It is a space for me to "grow", for me to "reflect" and for me to "meet clients" but somehow, shooting in studio isn't something I am looking for as it is less challenging to me.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, many of us, Singapore is a new home, it is a place where we want to explore, every corner seems to be interesting and I am still amaze with Orchard Road, Emerald Hill, Botanic Gardens, East Coast Park, Hort Park, and many other places in Singapore...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The fact is, studio shots can be achieved, when you are in London, Singapore, Sydney, Japan, or just any part of the world... but can you have "Singapore Botanic Gardens"? or can you have "East Coast Park"? any where in the world? </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">We have recently shoot a couple of sessions in the rain... I must admit... it is challenging but yet, it is very very interesting. The lighting is simply irresistable and it is a lot "cooler" and for the first time, we have Botanic Garden to ourselves... just me and a family of 3 with a 5 months old baby... I recall, my client told me, they have never seen Botanic Garden so beautiful and calm before...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I love the outdoor... do you? </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Regards,</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

Life experience through Children Photography<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Hello all,</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">We have been really busy for the last few months as Christmas is approaching and is just around the corner. Chinese New Year is to follow next...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Anyway... just a quick announcement that<b> we will be away from 17-21 January 2010</b> for a much needed holiday to re-group and re-focus our direction for 2011... I will be in Bali with family and we won't be offering any sessions.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b><i>Our focus next year, will be working further to enhance our client's total experience for using Tomato Photo's services.</i></b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Anyway, I thought sharing something that I have learned before and re-learn it today through personal experience....</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> <span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have come to realise that what matters in life is what we don't do... <b>we do regrets of things that we don't do in life...</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>I would regret if I didn't took a plunge 6 years ago from a comfy engineering life to do photography</i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>I would regret if I didn't relocate to Singapore 3 years ago...</i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>I would regret if I didn't specialise in Children photography....</i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>I would regret if I didn't started newborn photography....</i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">When I set foot in Singapore, having my first newborn, Alexander, has given me a new set of priority and a new set of focus as well as bundle of joy...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><u><i><b>The images that I capture on daily basis is nothing more than an extension of my life, my experience and my feeling towards the possibility that the child right in-front of me could do in their life especially the newborn.</b></i></u></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The fact is, I lost my younger brother a few years ago... and last thing that he says to me was... <b>Thank you for being my brother... </b>at that moment, I felt... well, life is just unpredictable... and I would regret some things that I didn't do...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">To care and put every single effort in making sure that our client is being taken care of isn't the easiest thing... but they (our clients) give me the reason to see possibility through the very nature of children, making every process worth going through...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i><b>As Steve Jobs would say.... Stay hungry, Stay foolish....</b></i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I was told that I am a fool 3 years ago to be silly enough to specialise nothing but in Children Photography... I was foolish enough 2 years ago that I spend 6 months worth of advertising promoting something I truely believe in, Newborn Photography.... but it felt right at that time and I was right... I truly enjoy every second of it.... </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i><b><br />
</b></i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i><b>If your heart tells you something... follow it... I have certainly follow my heart and I don't regret a single second of my life....</b></i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i><b>So what choices are you going to make when you wake up tomorrow? </b></i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i><b><br />
</b></i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i><b>Good nite!</b></i></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

Children generally have lots of fun when they are playing with water or in the rain. I know I love to play with water as well.... unfortunately, as we grow up... we lost the "child" within us... so wild, so imaginative, so free.... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The challenge with taking images of children in the rain is the level of light that is available when shooting available light. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Flash doesn't work so well due to its reflection and just make the image looks "flash"... just me... prefer the natural look to the images...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I thought this is quite an interesting topic to post as I was joking about it with Polo this afternoon...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Here is how our little Tomato family do it....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As many would know, we have 2 beautiful and active boys....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I want to function as a Daddy, someone who preserve memories for my clients, retoucher to images that I shoot, the QC manager to all my images and products, a delivery man for products to all our clients, (yes, I insist to do it myself for item that can't be posted safely), a husband and someone who put food on the table at the same time..... and hopefully have something left for the children's education in the future...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As we know, we have 24 hours in a day... every month, on average, I shoot about 1-2 sessions per day... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Many of our clients might have seen our little Tomato Photo van which have a big red TOMATO on its roof running around...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If you see 4 people in it... that me, Polo, Alex and Oliver.... so say hi next time if you happen to past by our little Tomato Van.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So we pack 4 people, water and food for the kiddo and us, client's order, cameras and lenses and off we go....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Me shooting, Polo bring kids around to post client's order, feed them and keep them happy... then we meet again as a family... in between if I have the time, I will bring them to Sentosa if I have shoots in Sentosa and Alex loves the "monorail" and you won't believe how often we are at the zoo....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Take a typical day like today... (of course, if I am doing 3-5 sessions a day... I will be all alone)..... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><ul><li><b>We wake up at 7ish am.. feed the kids....</b></li>
<li><b>We put everyone and everything in the van at 10am...</b></li>
<li><b>---- still squeeze in a quick shop for kiddo's food at Tanglin mall... before the first delivery...</b></li>
<li><b>1st delivery at 10:30am....</b></li>
<li><b>2nd delivery at 11:30am...</b></li>
<li><b>Butterfly park at Sentosa at 11:45am</b></li>
<li><b>Lunch at 1pm</b></li>
<li><b>Shoot at 2pm</b></li>
<li><b>3rd delivery at 4pm</b></li>
<li><b>Singapore zoo at 4:30pm</b></li>
<li><b>Home at 7pm.</b></li>
</ul><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Kids are asleep by 8pm and its time to reply emails... download images, process images.... and if we are lucky... 12 midnight when everything slows down...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Of course, we also take phone call, reply email on our iPad and schedule sessions on the run... and thank Steve jobs for iPad and whoever invented Mobile internet... we are greatful for it...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So please pardon me if I get distracted with kids yelling in the van or you can hear children's voices in the background...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So... it that will be a typical "working and family time" for our little Tomato family....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I think with the amount of car ride for the kiddo, they should do fine for Bali round trip everyday in the plane... hahahaha </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">and lastly... I thank God for giving me the energy and health to run around; and clients for the opportunity for us to spend time together....and most importantly... Glad that Singapore is pretty small which one can do so many things in a day....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Regards,</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is time of the year where new gear and equipment is needed to replace the old.... and here is the review of it...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Camera strap - Black Rapid Double Strap..</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">http://www.blackrapid.com/product/camera-strap/double-strap/</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I love the comfort and the ease of use for this straps which help me in fast action Children Photography. It slides effortlessly and allow me to work really fast. The thick padding around my shoulder makes it comfortable to wear for extended period of time. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I have yet to tried both straps with 2 cameras yet... shall add to this once I have tested the setting.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Photoshop CS5</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i>Yes, i know I am a bit late... but don't see the point until now...</i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b> </b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The industry-standard photo editing tool which now support 64bit processing which is a lot faster with Mac OS 10.6 even with the old set up... The interface is rather clean and the RAW processing is a lot more efficient and I just love it...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I was once a film photographer... however, digital change it all... <i><b>as a committed and certified premier Greener Photographer, we believe we should reduce our "impact" from our activity. By removing processes that require the use of chemical (processing the film, etc), allow us to be "Green".</b></i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">With Photoshop, it allows the photographer to control their creative vision... <i>and a freedom to express in color and black and white.... B&W from color film is a no no, unless you like those muddy B&W... Color from B&W negatives? well, shall we call it impossible? I am sorry but I don't see the reason to enjoy half of the world.... Digital (Color & B&W) is the best of both world... </i></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Children photography is one area where color makes the kids looks "Happy & Beautiful" and the B&W allow the photographer to channel the emotion and connection between the subjects... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i><br />
</i></b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>Have you seen the print from 100% cotton-rag paper fine art print? </i></b> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I used to love the "fibre base" paper printed from B&W film and I thought, it is (was) the best.... don't get me wrong... I still love it for nostalgic feel of the paper... but whenever I think about the chemical that use for that... it makes me wonder? </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The word chemical seems to be quite the opposite to "Children Photography".... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Sony A850 DSLR</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The little brother of Sony A-900 camera... I am glad that I have bought the camera a few months ago... After more than 200,000 clicks... A900 decided that it needed the TLC from the technician from Sony Service Centre...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b> </b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Inside that little DSLR body, hosted the highest resolution sensor (~25MP) there is to offer in 35mm full frame... best thing is... Stabilising for lenses... Built in!!! </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I love Sony system which is the only company for 35mm format that offer stabilisation to all the prime lenses... no other system provide that at this stage... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
In case you are wondering, it is the same sensor that Nikon put in their high end D3X.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Sony NEX-5 with legendary Minolta Rokkor 35mm f1.8, 50mm f1.2, 85mm f1.7 lenses...</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Ok... this is not a business equipment... I use this as my everyday system which allow me to create DSLR quality in a very small package and incredible ease of use....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is my toy... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Speaking of which... this camera is capable to produce very good quality images when needed... I was using to shoot a few portrait using the system when A900 decided to take a break. Impressive!!!</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Spyder 3 Elite</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, my 5 years old Eye 1 Display 2 calibrator has decided it is also time to call it a quit... In Singapore, it is quite impossible to find support for Xrite's product, hence, I find my next Calibrator for my monitor... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I was skeptical with with Spyder and Spyder 2 as they have never as accurate as Xrite's product as far as my experiences tell me... however, Datacolor seems to create a product that I am so happy with....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So all 4 of my Macs are now calibrated with the device for color accuracy.... Love it... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is one little steps that all photographers should do is to calibrate your monitor... what you see is what you print... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Here is my wish list:</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Latest 12 Core MacPro with 30" Eizo Monitor.....</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Leica M9 with Noctilux 50mm f0.95</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><br />
</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><br />
</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

<br />
End of the year is often filled with lots of activities and lots of running around to make sure things happen in the right order and business is being promoted correctly.<br />
<br />
It is a busy time where lack of sleep and long hour are a norm....<br />
<br />
On another note, you may notice on the street there is a little fridge-like Van with Tomato Photo logo. That's me in the van most of the time. <br />
<br />
It is amazing how many of our friends and clients will email and SMS me after seeing our van.<br />
<br />
It's fun and it's great to see what our clients remember us....<br />
<br />
We were at Hollandse club last Friday and of course The van was parked in the vicinity... End of day after packing, when walking to my van, I notice a note on the windscreen... I thought... "did I park at the wrong place?" to my surprise and delight... <br />
<br />
The note was from friend of Tomato Photo...<br />
<br />
Dear Hart,<br />
<br />
Love you!!!<br />
<br />
Janice, Chirsty and Gommy <br />
<br />
<br />
It is very very nice gesture and love you guys too....<br />
<br />
<br />
World is a better place with love...<br />
<br />

<br />
I think October 2010 will be the highlight to the year.<br />
<br />
The month started early at 7am on 1 Oct 2010 and 6 shoots on 1 day with twins newborn session which went really well and the day ended at 11.30pm. So that is about 17 hours. Follow by newborn session almost everyday since 29 September.<br />
<br />
Apart from the photography, it is a privileged to run a course on "Business in Photography" for fellow photographer who is either new to the business, struggling to get enough jobs to make the ends meet to photographer who is looking to expanding their business.<br />
<br />
The course was attended by 11 professional photographers and freelance Photographers. It was fully booked about 5 days from the initial introduction, I guess people are curious about how we gain enormous business in a very short time and maintain it. There is no secret and no magic.. Just an honest business practice by creating interesting images that client is looking for.<br />
<br />
The course was suppose to run for 2 hours but over run by another 3 hours due to the amount of questions and interest from the attendees. I think I should run another one if I can squeeze in a time for it...<br />
<br />
I lost my voice for a couple of days and still run like a headless chicken... The peak season is truly here... And I feel a lot more creative than before and have been trying a lot of new set of images which will be introduced when I am ready.<br />
<br />
Well, as of end of September, our total number of shoot per month has been exceeded in Oct but we will try to squeeze in more clients as we believe in serving our clients rather than turn people away by telling them we are fully booked.<br />
<br />
There are a couple of wedding shoots this months along with the usual family and newborn photography...<br />
<br />
Well, It is always said, when you are busy, it is a good problem to have... And I guess all the upgrade in our infrastructures was a good decision to make and hope our ridiculous target will be met again... And we are a step closer to our dream.<br />
<br />
I took on what Steve Jobs' mention in his speech at Stanford graduation ceremony... <br />
<br />
Stay hungry and stay foolish...<br />
<br />
Love my life and love my work.. (although lack of sleep)<br />
<br />
Regards,<br />
<br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Been out and shooting since 8am this morning... It is really challenging to capture images of children.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Every child is so different and one thing that they have in common is, they love to do the opposite, but not always... and yes, they don't take instruction too... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anyway... these 2 images are from the very last session at Botanic Garden... I love the light and I love how it turn out...</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
Hand is one of the most difficult thing to pose, so try not to pose them. It has to happen naturally and I just love how the hand just drawn the image to the face.... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9556p8NmskZiAICj9FzrKARV404gMahvMo39FHI18ppgwsvg1aRoKNTPC0fKFbEp5OWB28mttj1ZNFRYrlch7HdvqL_460RMyqXrugkHUS71MOknIcnof_CSZTNsBzb9jB7yJszs60cXb/s1600/DSC04095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9556p8NmskZiAICj9FzrKARV404gMahvMo39FHI18ppgwsvg1aRoKNTPC0fKFbEp5OWB28mttj1ZNFRYrlch7HdvqL_460RMyqXrugkHUS71MOknIcnof_CSZTNsBzb9jB7yJszs60cXb/s1600/DSC04095.jpg" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Walking time? well not just yet... once of the most interesting shots of little children when they are just about to walk is how they balance themselves... it is often very challenging to get the smile and balancing at the same time... I was lucky today.... mom told me that he was a little cranky today in the car to Botanic garden... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY2GS5-1JPGKB0_MAUgcKJryoJWl54aeTwQ67NI0LsQ8APs5UCUMIpMjBU9D1-WWP35WExjnAMO6yAhagSTi13R-M0MsfEU7w7erB_mnPANZTVUW1vhYsiaHXN1QH87ujp_NYdbBZKGP9L/s1600/DSC04104.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY2GS5-1JPGKB0_MAUgcKJryoJWl54aeTwQ67NI0LsQ8APs5UCUMIpMjBU9D1-WWP35WExjnAMO6yAhagSTi13R-M0MsfEU7w7erB_mnPANZTVUW1vhYsiaHXN1QH87ujp_NYdbBZKGP9L/s1600/DSC04104.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">One of my joyous moment is when I see my own children playing and giggling... it such a heart warming moment....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Remember the day when the first child was born? counting those little fingers and little toes makes me feel so surreal about the whole experience.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I am always wondering about twins... and over the years we have been privilege to capture quite a few twins... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This week, we have 2 family photography session with family which have twins... and they are both lovely returning clients.... It is amazing to take care 1 child, 2 children at the same time?? I take my hat off for them... </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Twins do have very different personalities, so one trick works with one and may not work with the other... here are a few that I love....</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I was about to leave home for a shoot late afternoon yesterday for a shoot of my returning client and looking at the cloud in the sky tells me that the rain is going to pour... normally, I will receive a phone call from my client asking for re-scheduling, this time, a text message says... "Lets take a chance and carry on with the shoot..."</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

The not so obvious tips...<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Hello,</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It has been nearly 3 years concentrating in children photography and family photography. I thought of sharing some of my experiences in getting interesting images of children photography. These tips may not be so obvious and generally less photographic central but people central.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Remember when taking pictures of people, they are giving you the trust and respect, so it is just a nice gesture if you return that trust and respect. Never hurry in lifting your camera to your eyes to take a shot. Take your time to understand your subjects and give them respect that hey deserve. It is the key to people photography.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">You may have better tips... Leave me a comment with your tips if you would like to contribute.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>1. Children first, photography second.</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is one of the most fundamental yet easily forgotten fact about children photography. Children like adult demand for attention and respect. The focus is with the children and not in photography. Many Photographers that I observe anxious about getting the shots. Slow down and bond with them and give them all the respect, you shall rewarded with their trust.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>2. Shoot natural light.</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Children photography don't have to be complicated and no flash is required. Natural light gives you very comfortable looking images without that "perfectly" artificial lighting. Remember they are doing you a favor by letting you take their shots. So go natural.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>3. Shoot in their environment</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The reason why we started children photography is to capture memories of our children, hence, shoot where their memories are. On their bed,their favorite toys, their behavior and let them be themselves which allow their personality to shine through.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>4. Minimize your equipment</b></span> </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">A simple full frame dslr with a humble 50mm f1.4 can go a long way by not intimidating the children of your photography tool. Less is more and keep it simple principle do apply here. Forget about reflectors, flashes, big zoom lenses, it is more effective with little set-up.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>5. Clothing choice for children photography</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The idea behind clothing is to ensure the clothing don't date the pictures so we would recommend clothing that is as simple as possible. Solid colors without prints will be nice as print and writing tend to move the attention from the subject to the clothing. However, at the same time, it is very important to do some shots with your child favorite clothing. If they are old enough, let them choose. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>6. Getting the smile</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is probably the most requested shot. However, the only way to make the child smile is by not asking them to smile. As the resultant smile tend to be forced and unnatural. Try to play with he child and get him to smile because he is happy. That way, the smile will look a lot better.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>7. Shoot early in the morning or late in the afternoon</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Lighting is often the best, so get on earlier or very late in the afternoon. Younger children tend to be happier in the morning.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>8. Observe, observe and observe</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Most great images emerge from observing the child's behavior. Let kid being kid and observe what they do and don't do before taking the shots will allow you to capture some of the very best images of your child.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>9. Sleeping time</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Children are often cranky during their sleeping time, so it is best to note their sleeping time and only do capture their photos 1 hour after their sleep or nap.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>10. Give and you shall be rewarded.</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">With children, you give them what they want and they will give you what you want. Not the other way round. Bribing with food should be the last resort. Sometimes children require a bit more "warming up" so give them time. They often require some "break" during your shoot, so only do small snippet about 5 minutes and let them play for 5-10 mins if the child needs it.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>11. Keep it short</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Children, unlike adult portrait, only last for a good 30minutes or so, less for younger and slightly longer if older. Read their body language, if they give you the signal of stop taking photos, stop and do it another time.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Ok then... Till next time...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Regards,</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
